2°C – the future of food roundtable

21 October 2015

To mark the closing of 2°C Communicating Climate Change at The Aram Gallery, Disegno will lead a roundtable on the future of food.

The roundtable discussion will be held in the gallery at 3pm on 31 October. Building on the theme of the exhibition, panellists Dr. Tara Garnett, Tom Lloyd and Cathrin Walcyzk will discuss the impact of the food industry on climate change.

Dr. Tara Garnett is the initiator of the Food Climate Research Network at the University of Oxford. Her research explores the relationship between food production and emissions, often focusing around livestock and animal welfare.

Tom Lloyd is the co-director of London-based design firm PearsonLloyd. For 2°C, PearsonLloyd presents a fridge installation that displays the huge quantity of water and CO2 required to produce even a 25g speck of beef.

Cathrin Walcyzk is a member of the award-winning architecture and design practice Universal Design Studio, which also designed the 2°C exhibition, and created Hell’s Kitchen as part of the exhibition. It's a maquette that explores possible futures for food production and consumption. Exploring issues of cannibalism, genetic modification and vegetarianism, the maquette was based upon research conducted by Dr. Tara Garnett.

The talk is followed by a final tour of the exhibition where refreshments will be served.
