The Brompton Pitch: participants announced

We are happy to announce the five studios participating in The Brompton Pitch, an open-air design market taking place during London Design Festival (LDF).

Set on the Exhibition Road in South Kensington, London’s museum quarter, The Brompton Pitch is a three-day platform for designers to sell products or services throughout the festival. The site has been curated by design consultant Jane Withers and Disegno's editor-in-chief Johanna Agerman Ross.

The studios exhibiting as part of the Pitch are Okolo, Casting London, Fixperts, Phil Cuttance and Studio Chehade. The final stand will be occupied by Disegno.

The exhibiting studios are eclectic, feeding into the basic principle behind The Brompton Pitch. "We want to put things right onto the street and see how design stands up in an open forum context," says Withers. "It’s about showing a non-design audience that design isn’t just about pretty products and cute chairs but can engage with our lives in other ways."

Okolo is a Czech creative group led by Adam Štěch, Jakub Štěch, Matěj Činčera and Jan Kloss. The collective organises exhibitions and events, is a publisher of design and design books, and produces a dedicated magazine. We recently covered Okolo's exhibition of bottle openers in Prague.

Casting London is a portable micro-factory built on the back of a trike. Developed by the RCA graduates Shruti Grover, Nayoung Kim, Chinwei Lao and Peter Codling, it uses spin-casting to create pewter souvenirs, cultivating a theatricality through manufacturing the pieces in the street. These souvenirs will be produced and sold throughout the Brompton Pitch.

Fixperts is an online platform developed by Daniel Charny and James Carrigan. It encourages designers to use their skills to solve everyday problems in people’s lives, filming the process and uploading a video to the internet to act as an inspiration and guide to others. We previously covered Fixperts’ social design in Disegno No.4.

Phil Cuttance is an east London designer who has worked with Max Lamb and Martino Gamper. Cuttance is best known for his geometric, digital-inspired Faceture series of objects, the candles from which will be available during The Brompton Pitch. Made from water-based resin, the pieces are constructed on a machine specially developed by Cuttance.

Studio Chehade is a graphic design practice founded by Daniel Chehade, a graduate of the London College of Communication who has previously worked for The Aram Gallery, The Hayward Gallery and The National Theatre. Over the course of The Brompton Pitch, Chehade will document the market; designing, printing and binding a publication about the Pitch that will be available on the final day of the event.

The Brompton Pitch will run for three days during LDF, with participating designers creating and operating their own stands.
