Swarovski appoints creative director

Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert, a former fashion editor at Vogue Italia and W, has been appointed the first global creative director of Swarovski.

Battaglia Engelbert previously headed up the crystal company's B2B division, Swarovski Professional, but will now have creative oversight of the entire company – the first such appointment in the brand's 125-year history.

Battaglia Engelbert said: “For decades, Swarovski has been illuminating the world of fashion, design, entertainment, in general the whole creative industry. I am thrilled to be leading the creative vision of a cultural powerhouse like Swarovski in the future.”

Robert Bachurer, Swarovski's CEO said: “Our 125-year history is witness for the power of our company to transform and reinvent itself and I am pleased to welcome a brilliant creative mind and strong female leader like Giovanna to our company. With her remarkable track record in the industry and compelling point of view, she will explore new frontiers and become a vital part in writing the next chapter of our success story.”

Battaglia Engelbert's first crystal collection for the company will be spring/summer 2021.

Swarovski is known for a number of projects within the design world, both through its Atelier Swarovski Home collection, as well as ongoing projects and collaborations such as Crystal Palace and its Swarovski Designers of the Future programme. Battaglia Engelbert's involvement in these projects has yet to be clarified.
