This was the question that Disegno sent out to a group of 12 design studios at the end of the year, with an open brief to design a poster setting out their vision for 2017. The designers were given free reign to speculate, snipe, critique, amuse or project. Disegno will publish the results of what they came up with online throughout the Christmas and New Year period.
The results are wildly divergent, all presenting a different vision for what the world has in store for the coming year. Some are optimistic, others mournful. All, however, evince their creators’ ability to surmise complex information and ideas in immediately graspable graphics and imagery.
Disegno’s second 2017 poster is a collaboration between jewellery studio Räthel & Wolf and the graphic designer Konstantinos Trichas. Räthel & Wolf was founded at the end of 2016 by the jewellery designers Ricarda Wolf and Sari Räthel, whose Gender Blender graduate collection from the Royal College of Art (RCA) was crowned the winner in the jewellery category at this year's ITS 15 fashion awards in Trieste, Italy. For this project, Wolf and Räthel chose to collaborate with Konstantinos Trichas, a designer who graduated from the RCA's Visual Communication MA in 2015
Räthel & Wolf and Trichas focused their poster on notions of collaboration and cooperation, using their own work together as a point of optimistic reflection. In explanation of the project, the designers provided the following short verse:
We are a team.
Sharing love. Round and round you're turning me. The body in all its facets is essential.
Let's adorn it.
Fun fun fun.
