After the Showroom: The Realities of Sustainable Design

London

15 July 2019

How can designers and manufacturers better encourage recycling and repair? During the 2019 Clerkenwell Design Week, Disegno partnered with furniture group Flokk to try and answer this question.

Hosted at the Flokk showroom, Disegno staged a panel discussion centred upon the afterlife of objects, and what strategies might exist to prioritise the design of easily repairable, recyclable and long-lasting products. Beyond responsible production methods and material innovation, what role does the afterlife of objects have in the sustainability debate?

Taking part in the conversation were Caroline Till, co-founder of futures research agency FranklinTill; Ineke Hans, a designer and professor of Design and Social Context at the University of the Arts, Berlin; and Christian Eide Lodgaard, Flokk's senior vice president of products and brands. The conversation was chaired by Disegno's editor-in-chief Oli Stratford.

The discussion took place on 22 May 2019, and Disegno is delighted to announce that an edited film of the event is now available online.
